A little something I found from the Giant in the Playground forums where I frequent (the Order of the Stick forums for the webcomic-savvy)... The Ten-Minute Background is a little something made by a guy on the Wizards in the Coasts forums. It's basically a way to make a decent RP Character Background without spending too much time thinking about side stuff. Step 1: 5 Background info on your character that would be important to his/her image or concept. Something from the past or if they formerly belonged to some group. Something that helps shape who they are now. Step 2: 2 goals for the characters. One for the character themselves and one that you as a player would want the character to accomplish over time (Character Development of sorts). Step 3: Two secrets of your character. One that the character knows and another that they doesn't quite know about themselves. Step 4 (optional in this case): 3 characters (presumably NPCs) that are important to the characters' background. Due to the form of RPing used here this is highly optional on whether or not you want to include this. Step 5: List any particular memory or quirk that your character has. It's decent for making a beginning background without having to chart off an entire history (We don't need to know what school district they went to or the first time they ate a twinkie). Might be useful...
