AVATAR: GENERATION WWC
"War never ends, and it's never too early to prepare for the next one." -Rain Winters, Former Princess of the Fire Nation
It was been only 160 years since Avatar Aang returned to restore balance to a fractured world. This peace had been sustained for a long time, allowing the nations to cool and repair. A century and a half later, war once again broke out unexpectedly. The four great nations of the time all took the call to arms and went to war with each other. Massive casualties were sustained and many great heroes rose up from each nation to fight for their people.
The war came to an end with the second coming of the Avatar, Darius Winters. Soon, he too was seen as military despot and his rule found opposition in every nation. The Fire Nation Princess gave her life to stop him and finally restore the nations to their former glory.
All sides, weary and even more suspicious of one another, refused to draw down arms. They had been caught off guard once, and they were not going to let it happen again. This Cold War has produced robust Military Academies that train their young and gifted. The teachers, now Generals, were veterans of the most destructive war to hit the planet.
The next generation, children when this war ended, are now endowed with the responsibility of being the future of their respective nations.
Will they answer the call?

They are dutiful, diligent, and loyal to their comrades above all us. Desired attributes are Intelligence and Durability. Fire: The people of the Fire Nation are strong and ambitious. They find their strength to fight for honor, pride, and their nation. Desired attributes are Strength and Bending Ability. Air: The people of the Air Nomads are kind and loving. They value freedom, protection of the planet, and personal happiness. Desired attributes are Fighting Skills and Speed. Character Sheet Name:Age: 18-22 Range please Sex:Bending Discipline: Water, Earth, Fire, or Air. Also, if you have a unique move, describe it here. Description: Pics are fine, but you can add to the picture's description as well. Personality: Describe them and their quirks. Bio: Probably under two paragraphs, preferably. Stats:Intelligence: Smarts, ability to think on one's feet Strength: How strong is your character with no bending? Speed: Running, etc. Agility: Flexibility, reaction time Bending Ability: The strength and potential of one's bending Fighting Skills: Martial arts and hand to hand Control: The precision and skill one has with their bending Durability: How does your character take a punch? Locations: Water Tribe: This industrious nation is housed in the two poles of the world, North and South. Despite this vast swath of land and sea between them, they are a united people who use their sea routes to keep in constant contact. The Water Nation military academy is homed in the Northern Water Tribe.
Earth Kingdom: The Earth Kingdom, while it lost the most from the Four Nation War, still remains the largest nation that relies on agricultural and domestic trade to produce goods. The Earth Nation military academy is located behind the great walls of its capital city, Ba Sing Se.
Fire Nation: A chain of islands links the Fire Nation together and it, remarkably, maintained a hold over all its territory in the midst of the Four Nation War. Its power comes from its astonishing Air Force and Navy where their metallurgical skills have given them a tremendous edge. Its capital is the home of its Fire Nation military academy.
Air Nomads: Despite sectioning themselves off to four different territories, the Airbenders put emphasis on personal bonds, remembering the genocides of the past. While their military remains robust, they still focus on their religious principles, never amassing more than they need. The Southern Air Temple is the location of the Air Nation military academy.
Trade Nation: (the red area) After the return of the Last Airbender and the end of the war, a southern Earth Kingdom lord declared his own nation that did not involve itself in the Four Nation War. While they still have a powerful military, it normally remains aloof in the face of war, focusing on building up its rich infrastructure which has become the greatest and most beautiful in the world. CURRENTLY LOCKED
Desert Empire: (the black area) The origins of these vast tribes of people is unknown to this day. The Earth Kingdom for many years was able to police this grand territory but they were forced to withdraw. Nothing else is known except for the political marriage they made with the Trade Nation and the people of the land are known to have destructive, never before seen abilities. CURRENTLY LOCKED

Read the element descriptions, Raven. The element you choose affect where your stats are boosted and lowered.
And no, this is just to see if you guys have questions about the setup, plot, and to make sure it generates interest. Hooray for teasers.

What about non-benders! D8

I didn't know people wanted non-benders as playable characters, to be honest. The characters we control are Academy students for their respective nations. If there's a big demand for non-benders, I don't mind adding them as Academy students as well.

Nevermind, I was confused about the whole academy thingy. ^_^ All benders are fine with me. (pfft almost wrote 'all blenders')
So will we be RPing at the academies or around the avatarverse?

I think that just in case people start getting ideas, it should probably be kept in mind that: - Avatar has primitive technology, therefore no guns or cars or cell phones XD - Most names are exotic and of Eastern origin, so names like Bob or Tyler or Eric probably won't exist (or at least not be common at all... who wants to be named Tyler anyway?)

The people will start out at their respective military academies, so a very diverse cast is definitely better!

i'll back you up on number 1 damaru, but number 2 is a joke lol No it isn't lol. Names in Avatar: Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Azula, Ty Lee, Mai, Jet, Suki. Unless someone's a foreigner it would be out of the flavor of Avatar to have common names that come from the West. Besides, this encourages creativity in names.

But yeah, I'm also interested in everyone's ideas on starting points. Would you guys rather be Academy students, recent graduates, or something else?

I have questions. By nicknames do you mean codenames like in NHA? Would our characters be called that all the time?
And about the stats...
Water: Desired attributes are Agility and Fighting Skills. Earth: Desired attributes are Intelligence and Durability. Fire: Desired attributes are Strength and Bending Ability. Air: Desired attributes are Control and Speed.
I think a few of these could be switched around. Water bending is based on the principle of tai chi, which values both flexibility (could be considered agility) and most of all, control. So Water's desired traits would be Control and Agility. For Fire, all of them are notably dynamic physical fighters, so I think Strength and Fighting Ability would work for that. Air, being the most energetic and maneuverable, may be better suited to have Speed and Bending Ability instead. Just a suggestion.
And I think being students or graduates depends on what certain people want, but personally I go with students.
By the way, the academy is not like high school, right lol?

In regards to Robo's question, I would rather be more nomadic then an academy student. We already have NHA to supply any sort of drama that would be associated with a school, and I would personally prefer the freedom to travel over the continents.

why do we even need a control stat lol?
what would control be in comparison to bending ability
|
|
|
Post by Damaru on Mar 4, 2009 20:20:54 GMT -5
Control is like the backbone of all of your stats. Characters would have to be able to control their bending AND body if they're going to work effectively.
And Cheshire, I agree, but I imagined the academy to be more like a training, semi-militaristic school that doesn't HAVE to be attended by everyone.

I shall speak now. I have been withholding commenting, but now it is time.
I choose graduates, otherwise there would be either constricting someone to one specific academy, or switching perspectives often, which would confuse many people who would then say, "Whatever." and not post, causing a chain reaction in which very few people post until even they are forced to realize the truth, being that it is dead. But, if we are grads, we could be renegades or mercs of some sort, which would be cool.

Nicknames are sorta like codenames. If you have a good one, people will probably call your character by it XP or they'll be NHA'd
Bending Ability is basically how strong your abilities are. Control is how you can actually handle that power. Like my character has a 5 bending ability that gives him a lot of powerful flames, but he has 1 control, so he's not going to be doing intricate things with all that power.
If we do Academy, it won't be like school. It'll be more field work stuff. Me and Rosie are personally leaning toward graduates.

Why don't you just create a poll so that it's easier to see what everyone thinks, as opposed to waiting for people to post? In regards to the student/not student question.

so what's the plot going to be about. Is everyone going to be in a diffrent part of the world, such as the part attribute to their element, or will we all be in the same place, like in the NHA.

I saw bending ability as the overall skill to bend a particular element, not just the power of the element (if so, it would have to be more appropriately called "elemental strength"). Robo did you take a look at what I suggested? I think we should stick to the original fighting themes of Avatar. I was wondering if you could bump up the stats from 20 to 30. Considering they are in a world of skilled fighters all around, and if they really are going to be graduates, they should not have to start that low.

Post by RowBoat on Mar 4, 2009 20:40:47 GMT -5
It's a combo of both. Control also comes into play for one's original move.
If it is ultimately graduates, it'll probably be bumped up to 30.
I get what you're saying about the attribute increases, but I kind of wanted to keep them balanced too. Strength and Fighting Ability seems too stacked, personally. I'll look over it some more and see what I can do.

One thing I never fully understood about bending abilities was could anyone do it, or just select people and if so why could they bend, but not other people?

One thing I never fully understood about bending abilities was could anyone do it, or just select people and if so why could they bend, but not other people? On the show, it was more like mysticism. Some people, even identical twins, had it while another twin didn't. So it's determined at birth, or at least that's the theory I'm going by for the RP. Everyone vote and post in the poll, please.
